Forum on Food, Agriculture, Trade and Environment

Brussels, from 9 am to approximately 5 pm

Topics which will be debated

Who should produce food, for whom, for whose benefit, how and where to achieve world food security ?
what is needed in order to promote the sustainable (economic, social, environmental and equitable) food systems that will ensure food security ?
How Policy Coherence for development can ensure that EU policies are elaborated to attain these objectives ?

Programme

- 9.00 Opening of the Forum
- 9.30 Introductory remarks by two external speakers : What is needed in order to promote the sustainable (economic, social, environmental and equitable) food systems that will ensure food security ?Who should produce food, for whom, for whose benefit, how and where to achieve world food security ?
- 11.15 – 12.45 Debate : What are the key questions / issues (forward looking) ?, How these questions / issues relate to the two key questions ?, What the EU is doing ?, What have we been doing as CONCORD (and who is doing what ?), What should CONCORD focus its work on towards 2013 ?, Issues to be looked at : the CAP reform, models of (food) production and food markets, the IAASTD findings, land grabbing, climate change and agriculture, multifunctionality of agriculture, food aid, and nutrition, EU food security policy
- 14.00 – 15.15 Debate : trade and competition, intellectual propriety rights (including land propriety), raw materials, market access, decent work, FTAs and trade rules, EPAs, market access, trade regulation, market concentration and investment (including land grabbing).
- 15.30 – 16 Panel discussion with representatives from the EU institutions (European Parliament, Commission, EU Presidencies) : How do EU instruments respond to the challenges identified in the two debates ?
